Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel(born 2 March 1989) is an English actress. Emmanuel began her stage career in the latter part of the 1990s. She was given roles in West End musicals like The Lion King. She was born in Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England, on March 2nd, 1989. Her mother is Dominican and her father is of half-Saint Lucian and half English descent. She has an older sister. Emmanuel recalled that her mother first noticed her interest and determination to be an actress during Emmanuel's attendance at the independent St Hilda's School, which shut down in 2014, and then later Westcliff High School for Girls grammar school. She stated that she first noticed her passion for acting at the age of three years old. Her mother encouraged her to take dancing, singing, as well as acting classes. In the West End production of The Lion King Young Nala was the role as Young Nala. The following year she was cast in Game of Thrones as Missandei Daenerys Targaryen's interpreter. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she confirmed that she had received the news of winning the role in which she was working in a clothing store as a shop assistant. In 2015, Emmanuel was promoted to an established cast member on the show. Missandei was the only major character that was a woman of colour on the show. In addition, her funeral scene, which occurred during her time in chains, was unpopular among fans who viewed it as an instance of fridging , and also evoked an image of slavery.Emmanuel was later quoted by The Guardian: The reaction to her death was huge because she was the only person. I'm convinced that many who felt marginalized or excluded loved Missandei and felt that they were represented by her. Many were hurt when she died and was buried in such a tragic way. This is how they want to remember the sole woman in their race.
